The vagus nerve is the longest of the cranial nerves. Its functions contribute to the autonomic nervous system. These include sensory, motor and parasympathetic functions. Most notably, the vagus nerve affects blood pressure, heart rate, calmness, relaxation, alertness, and digestion. Moreover, of particular significance to health, one has to look at its role in inflammation. Mounting evidence suggests a common underlying cause of major degenerative diseases is inflammation. Observational studies and laboratory research suggests that inflammation can be a causative factor in many diseases. These include coronary disease, diabetes, cancer, colitis, Alzheimers, autoimmune disorders, just to name a few. Transdermal nerve stimulation with electroacupuncture is currently endorsed by WHO to control pain and inflammation. Furthermore, research shows that acupuncture can specifically stimulate the vagus nerve. Auricular or “ear acupuncture” and some body points are effective in stimulating this nerve. This can address healing such disorders as: • Depression • SIBO • Anxiety • Panic Attacks • Tinnitus • IBS • Weight Gain • Diabetes • Chronic Fatigue • Migraines • MS • Rheumatoid Arthritis Acupuncture can significantly modulate pro inflammatory cytokines, lessoning the inflammation response. In addition, Neuroimmunogenic regulation of inflammation further provides insights into studies on how brain activity affects mind body health. For instance, meditation has been reported to increase vagus nerve activity. This “wanderer” nerve that runs from your brain all the way to your gut is known as a remarkable internal sensory system. This system includes your emotions. “I felt it in my gut”, is derived from this. Science is just now starting to realize the importance of emotions on health. For any disease, for true healing to occur, the emotional undertone needs to be addressed. Working with the electrodynamic field, acupuncture and increasing vagus tone is a natural safe way to regulate emotions, specifically, suppressed emotions. This will lead to true health because all of the bodies: spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical have to be aligned. Many Blessings, Jennifer

Expounding on the basis that everything is energy, in 2007, I decided to explore this with food. I bought David Wolfe's book, "The Sunfood Diet Success System," and did a raw food cleanse for one month. The premise behind this vegan raw food diet (nothing cooked above 104 degrees) is that when you cook food you are essentially destroying the vitamins and minerals in it. In addition, when raw food was studied under kirlian photography, it seemed to have a greater energetic resonance. Therefore, raw food should vibrate at a higher rate than cooked food. Since humans are bio-electric beings this diet made sense to me. The results were palpable and here are some of the things that I experienced as a result of doing this cleanse and continuing to primarily eat this way.
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/03/07/inflammation-triggers-disease-symptoms.aspx Diet is also a huge component in how we feel. Whole foods are the amino acid dietary precursors for neurotransmitter formation. When we eat the standard American diet of processed foods we are not receiving these essential amino acids. In addition, we are not receiving vitamins and minerals so our bodies are continuously hungry. When you eat a diet full of vitamins and minerals your body will be satiated and this will not lead to overeating that is so prevalent in our society. Below I have listed some resources if you would like to incorporate more raw foods into your diet. Some of my favorite books for raw food recipes: The Sunfood Diet Success System -David Wolfe The Complete Book of Raw Food-Julie Rodwell Raw The Uncook Book-Juliano If you are not vegan, Carol Alt has these 4 books out.
